Benefits of Bottle Fillings Fountains
It has been becoming more and more common for traditional water fountains to be replaced with newer high tech bottle filling stations. This trend has reached across many public spaces including gyms, airports, as well as schools. Not only are these new fountains more convenient and environmentally friendly due to the reduction of plastic water bottle use - they are safer as well.
Older traditional water fountains used lead piping which has many harmful effects. Through testing there was found to be harmful levels of lead in the blood of children who drank from these older model water fountains in schools. These levels of lead can have a negative impact on children’s brain development. In September of 2020, the United States Environmental Protection Agency banned the use of lead piping and ruled for the “use of lead free pipes, fittings, fixtures, solder, and flux for drinking water”.
Newer models forgo these lead pipes as well as introduce newer filtration systems. Replaceable filters are put in place in order to obstruct contaminants from being released into the drinking water. Water fountains can support bacteria which promote some of the following diseases and infections: e coli infection, influenza, norovirus (winter vomiting disease), shigella infection, and legionnaires disease. The filters also remove lead, copper, zinc, and other minerals and chemicals from the water.
Bottle filling fountains are clean and contactless as well. Since the corona virus has taken over the world, the spread of bacteria and germs has become a larger concern than ever before.
Summary
Bottle filling stations are the more beneficial alternative to traditional water fountains. Bottle filling fountains lack the dangerous lead piping which are extreme health concerns. New filtration systems are also put in place to aid in removing contaminants from the drinking water. Bottle filling stations are more environmentally friendly and contact free.
